Installing a dental implant
When you want to permanently replace a missing tooth, a dental implant is a durable and natural-feeling solution.
Dental implant at the Fuengirola clinic
A dental implant feels like your own tooth and is an integral part of you: it does not move and does not require removal.
Before the treatment, we assess the amount of bone, oral health and possible risk factors. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and then the implant needs time to attach to the jawbone. Once the ossification is complete, we prepare the tooth crown.
Implants can be used to build excellently stable single dentures or dental bridges. Complete dentures can also be more securely attached using dental implants. In particular, so-called mini-implants are used to attach complete dentures due to their lower price.
What exactly is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial root made of titanium that is placed in the jawbone. The surface of the implant is roughened, providing a large surface area for ossification. Modern implants ossify tightly into the jawbone: in normal cases, the implant ossifies with almost 100% certainty. New implants also allow implantation in increasingly difficult cases.
The basic structure of a dental implant includes an implant, or fixture, that is embedded in the jaw. After ossification, an extension, or abutment, is attached to the implant. A white crown that looks like an actual tooth is made on top of the extension.
