Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is performed when the tooth's nerve is inflamed or damaged to the point where a regular filling is not helpful.

Root canal treatment in Fuengirola

The pulp of a tooth can become inflamed or die, for example as a result of cavities or an accident. The solution is root canal treatment by a Finnish dentist at our Fuengirola clinic.

Delaying can worsen the infection, and living with a painful tooth is no fun. Therefore, if you experience, for example, numbness, pain when tapping or chewing, or other (new or long-lasting) dental symptoms, it is a good idea to seek an evaluation in a timely manner. However, an inflamed tooth does not always cause symptoms, so it is a good idea to have a dental check-up regularly.

Fear not: root canal treatment shouldn't hurt, a professional dentist and good anesthetics will take care of that!

How does root canal treatment proceed?

Root canal treatment raises many questions. Knowing in advance what will happen at the appointment makes it easier to sit in the chair. You can also always ask us questions related to your treatment.

Feel free to tell us if you are nervous about root canal treatment: your dentist will progress at your pace and ensure that you feel you are in good hands.

Stocktaking

At the beginning of the visit, we examine the tooth and take an X-ray to determine the extent of the inflammation and the condition of the roots.

The tooth is anesthetized and its surroundings are protected: root canal treatment should not hurt!

Root care

Once the area is numb, the path to the root canals is opened. We remove the inflamed tooth tissue and clean and rinse the root canals. Finally, the canals are filled and the tooth is closed, depending on the inflammation, either with a temporary or permanent filling.

Root canal treatment is performed in 1–3 visits to reduce the inflammation.

After root canal treatment

The tooth may be tender or have other sensations for a few days to a few weeks. The rate of healing varies from person to person: the tooth may feel different for months after root canal treatment as the inflammation settles and the tissues heal.

A follow-up visit for a root canal treated tooth is usually performed no later than one year after the procedure.
